Break

we break each other
piece by piece
and word for word
until there’s no more
left to break
then we stand by
and watch as the
other picks up each
broken piece
and unstrung word
Not of ourselves
But the ones we took
apart from the other
then we put them back
not where they belong
but where we decide
they should now be
where we’d like them
to now fit in
and that’s how we know
that there’ll always be
another day
another piece
to take away
one more word
to wrap around
one more misgiving
to shred to bits
that’s how we know
that we belong
together
to break and tear
each other apart
And then put back
into place again
that’s how I know
I’ll see you again
that’s how you know
I’ll never leave.
