She remembers the exact moment when she realised she had grown up.
It wasn't the day her marriage had crumbled to dust.
Or the time her father was diagnosed with an incurable and debilitating disease.
And the fact that she had been clinically depressed for years without being aware of it.
It wasn't even the day her mother was tragically killed in a road accident.
She finally felt like a grown up when she found out that the love of her life had another admirer.
And instead of jealousy and hurt, all she felt was pride and joy.
He was beautiful and brilliant. Magnificent in his manhood with a heart as deep as the ocean and thoughts as tender as the first time he held her in his arms and caressed her cheeks with the fingers that led her to fall in love with him in the first place.
How then, could the rest of the world not love him too?
Everything else had taught her the only important lesson in life - the things that happen to you could very well end up defining you, but they needn't limit you. Because you're like the shore that's lashed by the waves and stays still while the waters recede. And any erosion that happens is just a byproduct of events that take place.
So, she finally felt liberated when she saw that her lover was loved by someone other than her.
It only made her love him more. So much more.
