death

it used to be her favourite topic

i once asked her why

because it's the one thing i know nothing about

and yet, desire so unabashedly

if you ever found out, would you tell me? i asked

she promised she would

what does it mean to you, though?

it must signify something to elicit such deep-set desire?

it just feels like freedom, she replied

or perhaps the choice of something else

something other than this

please elaborate, i implored

imagine you were sitting inside a cinema hall watching an insufferable film

or inside a room surrounded by people you couldn't relate to

wouldn't you want to get out?

yes, i would... but only as long as i know i am stepping out into something better

like what? she asked

like going home, meeting a loved one, shopping, a walk by the sea, eating my favourite food... things like that, you know? i definitely wouldn't want to get out and step into something worse like a storm or a flood or riots....you need to know what else is out there... you can't just leave!

in that case, one can only think of things they know or are aware of. what about the unimaginable? wouldn't you want to know? she asked

nope, i replied

well, i do

and now that she does, she keeps her promise to me

and i keep mine to her
