Drop and Let Go

You drop everything into a pool of ice. One by one, you take every single thought that translates into every single word and exchange and watch it fall into that cold, clear pool. Then you listen for the plopping sound as it gently lands. The words are safe now and everything you’ve wanted to let out has fallen into place. You are happy and content. Just as long as you keep dropping into the pool and don’t expect anything to come back up… Not the things you’ve put in or anything new either – a response maybe, perhaps another question? A direct statement to set off a quick-paced ticking inside your mind or just an allusion to something you’ve always wanted to hear? No, none of it belongs to you anymore. You can abandon all hopes of ever dipping your toes into that pool of ice and sifting among the things you’ve put in to pick out the ones you want back. Someday, the sun will fire up its warmth on all cylinders and melt the ice, mixing together every single thing. What’s said is said, what’s done is done. Everything you’ve ever uttered and breathed out loud will someday turn into a cocktail you no longer recognize. I believe it’s a good thing because it teaches you how to let go and step back as things take on a life of their own. There’s uncertainty, risk-taking and dilemma in that but it also signifies movement, adventure, and continuity. After all, that’s what life is about anyway.
