Fly

To be both vulnerable and fearless is a potent combination. On the one hand, you feel exposed and uncertain of how the world relates to you. On the other, you shun all the doubt and dilemma and take the leap anyway. You jump precariously off that cliff and plunge straight into the unknown. You steady on for those first few micro seconds until you find your place in the atmosphere, and then you slowly start to take flight. Finally, you begin to soar and rise above it all, oblivious to the sharp drop below or the blurred views surrounding you. Your heart continues to pick up pace at an insane speed even as the adrenaline floods through you. You’re still exposed and at risk but now you’re also unstoppable. You no longer care about opinions and acceptance and group dynamics. All you think about now is completing your flight of fancy. All you care about is playing out your story exactly the way it was scripted inside your head. It’s just like the day you were born, when you came out naked, disoriented and anxious. But your full-throated cries were welcomed with whoops of joy because it meant that you were alive and well. And even though you were yanked out of your safe place, you were fearless because you had no idea what fear was. It was long before the gamut of human emotions had wrapped its tentacles around your virgin newborn flesh. Long before ‘you’ started dissolving into ‘them’. And long before the beginning and end of everything. It’s time to go back to that moment now. Be vulnerable and fearless. Be you.
